No. 4 Lindsey Wilson hands Lady Tigers first Mid-South Conference loss

COLUMBIA, Ky. — The rebuilding process is in mid-season form for head coach Eric Snyder and his Lady Tiger volleyball team met its match on Tuesday night. The reigning national champions swept, Lindsey Wilson College, swept Campbellsville in the Biggers Sports Center 25-14, 25-22, 25-10.

Campbellsville, which falls to 9-3 overall and 2-1 inside the Mid-South Conference, just couldn't find its offense on Tuesday night as Lindsey Wilson tallied twice as many kills as the Lady Tigers, 36-14. The Blue Raiders improve to 14-2 and 4-0 inside the MSC.

Campbellsville hung right with the Blue Raiders for half of the first set but an 11-0 run to end the opening frame gave Lindsey Wilson all the momentum and took the wind out of the sails for CU.

Lindsey Wilson led 14-10 early but a couple service aces by Liza Sharkova and a pair of attacking errors by the Blue Raiders knotted the match at 14-all. But then the Blue Raiders would score the next 11 points and took advantage of CU tallying only five kills and 11 errors.

The second frame was close throughout. The Blue Raiders led 8-3 before Coach Snyder took his first timeout of the set. CU answered and ended up keeping the deficit at four, 17-13, before another timeout. The Lady Tigers whittled the lead down to as little as two, 22-20, but LWC never let the lead go.

The second set was a better frame for CU, with nine kills and six errors on 32 attempts, but the Blue Raiders countered with their second-best hitting percentage on the night, hitting .250.

In the third set, it was all Lindsey Wilson. Campbellsville fell victim to its worst hitting percentage of any set this season (-.258) and did not record a kill throughout the frame.

The Lady Tigers finished the night hitting -.118 with 14 kills and 25 attacking errors. The Blue Raiders countered by hitting .239 with 36 kills and 15 errors. Sarah Cruz led LWC with 13 kills.

Campbellsville looks to get back in the win column this week with a pair of Mid-South Conference matches on Thursday and Friday. CU hosts Life University and University of the Cumberlands at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
