Holiday Inn Express Invite Ends With Two Losses for Campbellsville Women’s Volleyball

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Lady Tiger volleyball wrapped up play at the Holiday Inn Express Invite hosted by Olivet Nazarene Saturday afternoon. CU dropped both of their back-to-back matches on Saturday to finish the invite 0-4.
 
In a tightly contested match, the Lady Tigers fell to Trinity Christian 3-2 in a back-and-forth, five set match. Even though Taylor University won in a sweep, all three sets were only won by three or two points for the 3-0 victory for the Trojans.
 
The scoring in each set went 25-21 TCU in the first, 26-24 CU in the second, 25-20 Trinity in the third, 25-20 Campbellsville in the fourth then TCU won the fifth set 15-12 to close out the match. Campbellsville's best hitting sets were the sets they won, hitting .167 in each the second and fourth sets, they hit will in the fifth set but TCU hit .207 in the decisive set.
 
The Lady Tigers earned five more kills than Trinity Christian but committed 16 more attack errors than the Trolls. Middle blocker Julia Fonseca was the most consistent player for CU in the match hitting .286 with 12 kills in 28 attempts while also recording a solo and assisted block.
 
CU limited their errors in their second match of the day against Taylor but the Trojans just had more kills, aces and blocks to earn their win in straight sets.
 
Taylor won the first and second sets by only three points at 25-22 with the third set being a Trojan win by the slimmest of margins with a 25-23 victory.
 
Sonia Flendrich had the most kills, eight, and the best hitting percentage, .348, for the Lady Tigers in the three sets, also adding an assisted block. Katie Johnson and Fonseca had the same hitting percentage at .231 in the match with Johnson earning seven kills and Fonseca getting five.
 
CU will return home for four-straight matches at the Powel Athletic Center. Two Mid-South Conference matches against Cumberland and Pikeville then they will host the Green River Classic and face Fisk University and Xavier University of Louisiana.
