Long time rivals meet on Saturday in Williamsburg; Lady Tigers look to start MSC play 5-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — For the first time in the Ginger High Colvin era, Campbellsville University and University of the Cumberlands are meeting without the presence of Missy Irvin on the sideline for the Patriots.

Irvin retired after last season and Rick Reeves took over a program looking to rebuild. Campbellsville and Cumberlands are meeting on Saturday to close the Lady Tigers road trip this week. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET and coverage on the CU Sports Network begins at 1:45.

It's two opposite teams entering Saturday's contest, as the Lady Tigers have started conference play with a 4-0 mark and Cumberlands is looking to end a four-game skid. Campbellsville has beaten all of its MSC opponents by double figures thus far, but the O. Wayne Rollins Center has also proved to be a tough place to play as the Lady Tigers boast a 6-5 record in the Ginger High Colvin era.

The road doesn't get easier for either club though, as UC travels to No. 21 Lindsey Wilson next week and CU hosts receiving votes UPIKE on Thursday, Jan. 24.

Series Facts:
  • CU and UC are meeting for the 107th time in program history. CU leads the series 70-36.
  • CU won the first-ever meeting between the two in the 1976-77 season, 56-47.
  • Saturday marks the first game in 22 years that Melissa Irvin hasn't been on the sidelines for UC. Coach Ginger High Colvin finished with a 17-9 record versus Coach Irvin and Cumberlands. Saturday is the first meeting between Coach Colvin and Coach Rick Reeves.

  • The two have met six times in the MSC Tourney in the Colvin era and CU has a 2-4 record in that span.
CU Races Past Running Eagles:

  • The Lady Tigers never trailed in the game and led for 38:22 of the 40-minute total. CU made 32 shots from the field in the game with 26 of those baskets yielding an assist.
  • As usual, point guard Caitlin Hall was the leading helper for the Lady Tigers with nine on the night.
  • It was a night to remember for Savannah Gregory as she posted her second double-double as a Lady Tiger with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Gregory got a majority of her rebounds in the first half with seven at the break and scored seven of her 12 in the second half.
  • CU leading scorer was senior forward Jordan Doram who came off the bench to drop 17 on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Doram was a force in the paint as the Lady Tigers were dominant as a team down low, outscoring the Running Eagles 50-32 from the paint.
  • Two of the four Madisons to see the floor for CU reached double figures as Madison Kaiser and Madison Faulkner joined Gregory and Doram with a double-digit point totals.
