NAIA Top 10 showdown features No. 6 Campbellsville and No. 7 Shawnee State

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — To say Campbellsville University women's basketball is hungry to knock off a new rival would be an understatement. They will get that chance on Saturday afternoon as the sixth-ranked Lady Tigers travel to No. 7 Shawnee State for an NAIA Top 10 showdown.

Tipoff between the Lady Tigers and Bears is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET in the Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium in Portsmouth, Ohio. Coverage on the CU Sports Network will begin at 1:45.

The Lady Tigers haven't beaten Shawnee State in the last six matchups and the Bears have won four straight Mid-South Conference Tournaments - the last for Campbellsville came in the 2013-14 season over Georgetown.

But the Lady Tigers are the ones entering with a winning streak of eight games and the Bears fell to the hands of Georgetown College on Thursday night for the first slipup in conference play since Jan. 2017 - which ended a 26-game MSC winning streak.

The key matchup in this one is Shawnee State's ability to hold opponents to only 34 percent from the floor and Campbellsville hitting 46 percent of its shots - both of those are leading the MSC stats.

Campbellsville (20-2, 6-0 MSC) vs. Shawnee State (17-4, 4-1 MSC)
  • Campbellsville and SSU are meeting for the 30th time in history, with the Bears leading 17-12.
  • CU won the first meeting on Dec. 1, 1990, 69-54, and that started a four-game win streak for CU under Hall of Fame Coach Donna Wise.
  • Coach Ginger High Colvin has an 9-14 record against Shawnee State
  • Campbellsville has only won two games in Portsmouth - back-to-back wins in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

  • In the last nine matchups, CU has ranked in the Top 5. The Lady Tigers are No. 6 this matchup.

  • Three years ago, Shawnee State knocked off CU in OT, 74-67, to win its first MSC tournament title.
  • The Bears did so again in 2015-16, winning 75-62 in the title game to win back-to-back MSC Tournaments. And won their third straight MSC Tournament last year with a 71-65 win over LWC.
  • Last season, SSU's Hannah Miller hit a pair of free throws with one second on the clock to give the Bears their fourth-straight MSC Tourney title.
