Tiger volleyball goes 3-1 at NCCAA Invitational and finishes runner-up

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. — After going perfect through pool play, Campbellsville men's volleyball lost to Ottawa University of Arizona in the inaugural NCCAA Invitational Championship match Saturday afternoon. 
 
The Tigers lost only one set through pool play – a 3-1 win over Maranatha Baptist University. CU also swept Bluefield College and Trinity Christian College in straight sets. 
 
In addition to the team runner-up finish, Max Stotridge and Jason Camacho both earned All-Tournament Team honors. Stotridge, who missed the first match vs. MBU, finished the tournament with 25 kills and four aces. Camacho led the Tigers with 40 kills and 41 assists in all four matches. 
 
With the 3-1 record this weekend, the Tigers move their record to 3-4 overall. 
 

Campbellsville 3, Maranatha Baptist 1
 
The Tigers dominated in three of the four sets by winning 25-14, 25-15, 19-25 and 25-14. It was a match that was spread out offensively, as Camacho had nine kills, Diego Romero and Jose Viera Cerame both finished with eight and Tyler Vermillion had seven. Also, Camacho finished with 30 assists to lead CU. 
 

Campbellsville 3, Bluefield 0
 
In his first match of the tournament, Stotridge led Campbellsville with 13 kills, while Rafael Cruz had 11 and Camacho had nine. Jeremy Hernandez was the leading passer with 35 assists. 
 
The Tigers held Bluefield to hitting only .024 throughout the match with 19 kills and Campbellsville more than doubled the Rams production. CU finished by hitting .322 with 43 kills on 90 attacks and only had 14 errors to close Day 1 of Pool Play with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-16 win.  
 

Campbellsville 3, Trinity Christian 0
 
Playing the host institution Trinity Christian, the Tigers took the energy out of the gym by winning three close sets, 25-20, 26-24, 25-17.
 
Cruz led the way with 14 kills, while Camacho had 12 and Stotridge tallied 10. The difference in this one was the 11 service aces Campbellsville was able to register while holding the Trolls to just two. Campbellsville held a service reception percentage of 96% as well, while Trinity Christian's was 83%. 
 

Ottawa 3, Campbellsville 0
 
The Tigers met their match against Ottawa – which is the newest NAIA program for men's volleyball. The Spirit finished with 17 blocks and the Tigers finished with their lowest offensive production throughout the tournament by hitting .078. 
 
Ottawa won the inaugural NCCAA Invitational Championship in three sets, 25-17, 26-24 and 25-17. 
 
Campbellsville will return home to host its first tournament of the spring on Friday-Saturday in Gosser Gymnasium. The Tigers will play No. 4 Missouri Baptist for the second time this year at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, Feb. 1.
