Tigers drop home opener in a closely contested sweep to No. 4 Missouri Baptist

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The home opener didn't go as planned for CU men's volleyball but the sweep result at the hands of No. 4 Missouri Baptist did not reflect the type of match that was played.

The Spartans won the sets by scores of 25-22, 27-25, and 27-25 as the Tigers were a few breaks away from being able to pull out each set.

The first set was somewhat controlled by MBU throughout as they led by as many as seven in the middle of the match at 17-10. The Tigers clawed back to within three points, four times then cutting it to 24-22 before the Spartans called a timeout and won the next point to close out the set.

The next set was tight throughout with CU only able to pull out to two-point leads and Missouri Baptist only led by a point at multiple times in the set. When the Tigers led 23-21 late in the set but the Spartans rallied back to tie the set at 23-23 then were able to score three-straight points with the Tigers up 25-24 to take the set 27-25.

In the third, it was more of a comeback effort for Campbellsville as they trailed by five points at 11-6 and again by four points at 15-11. The Tigers went on a 6-0 run after trailing 15-11 to take a 17-15 lead before MBU answered with their own 5-0 run to take the lead back at 20-17. Once again the set went back and fourth until the end where the Spartans once again scored the final three points with the score at 25-24 to eventually win 27-25.

CU's Jason Camacho led all players with 16 kills on the night on 34 total attacks for a .294 hitting percentage. Noah Henkel went perfect 4-for-4 on his attacks, getting four kills on the night and adding two points on blocks with two assisted blocks and a solo block.

The Tigers will have to turn right back around for two matches tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. ET and 7:00 p.m. ET against No. 10 St. Andrews and Cincinnati Christian.
