BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – On a cool Saturday evening, Tiger soccer traveled to Union College to capture their eighth win of the 2019 season.
Despite being held to their second lowest shot total of the season, the Tigers were able to capitalize on a 56
th minute goal, coming at the foot of
Kalvin Semedo. Semedo's goal was only his second of the season, but it was a big one, as it carried CU to a 1-0 victory.
Throughout the first half, Campbellsville seemed to control play, outshooting the Bulldogs 6-1. After the Tiger attack was spread out, with shots from
Tom Edge,
Eleder Goikoetxea,
Connor Pugh, Azad Illiozer, and
Marc Lawrence, the Tigers were unable to put a ball in the back of the net.
Coming out of the halftime break, the Tiger attack quickened, as they were able to put together three shots in the first ten minutes of play. After shots from Pugh and Edge that ended up wide, Semedo was finally able to put CU on the board on a pass from Lawrence.
Following Semedo's goal, the Bulldogs came back on the attack as Edwin Garcia shot Union's first shot on goal, but
Antonio Barona Bonet, in his first start of the season, was able to record his first save of the match.
In the 71
st minute,
Gustav Oskarsson tried to extend CU's lead, but it shot was save by the Union keeper.
Nonetheless, Semedo's goal in the 56
th minute was enough for the Tigers to take down Union in the final non-conference match of the season.
Campbellsville will be back in action on October 16
th, when they travel to the University of the Cumberlands for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
