Tigers cannot get on the board as they fall in overtime, 1-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – In a physical match on Wednesday night, the Tigers were unable to score, falling to the University of the Cumberlands in the 101st minute.

The Patriots controlled much of play from the end of regulation into overtime, but it was a one-touch goal by Luis Jara the put the Patriots on top of CU, a minute and a half into the second overtime.

In the first half, the Tigers were able to record much of the action, placing pressure on Akililu Zambataro, forcing the Patriot goal keeper to record four saves. However, the 11 first half shots still held Campbellsville scoreless through the first frame.

After being outshot 11-6 through the first 45 minutes of action, the script was flipped in the second half as the Tigers were only able to record eight shots, while only putting two of those on target.

In the second half of play, many of the Tiger opportunities came off of their five corners, but those opportunities were often squandered by the Patriot defense.

As play was nearing close in the second half, the teams' physicality began to pick up as three yellow cards were given in the final ten minutes of regulation.

The third of these cards turned out to be a crucial one, as Kalvin Semedo attempted to stop a Patriot break with only seconds left on the clock. Semedo picked up a foul, but was carded in the attempt to stop the scoring opportunity with the foul. Semedo's card ended up being his second of match, disqualifying him for the rest of the game and forcing the Tigers to play a man down.

Through overtime, the Tigers were unable to slow the Patriot attack, as the Cumberlands continually forced the CU defense to make plays, putting up five shots in the first OT period.

Halfway through the first overtime period, a shot attempt from Smith Pepper forced a collision between Owen Stott and a Tiger defender, forcing Stott to leave play.

Antonio Barona Bonet replaced Stott and was immediately welcomed with a shot on goal, as he made his first save of the game.

However, as the second overtime period began the Patriots began their attack and Luis Jara was able to put in the golden goal for the Patriot's seventh win of the season.

Campbellsville will look to get back on the winning side of things as the visit Life University on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
