PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Coming off of a big home win over Brescia, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team went on the road to earn a 3-0 sweep win over the University of Pikeville.
CU dominated the first two sets and had to pull off a bit of a comeback in the third to take the sets by scores of 25-7, 25-14, and 25-23. The Bears hit for a negative hitting percentage in the match, finishing at -.011 as the Lady Tigers finished with a significant advantage in the main statistical categories.
Kills (35-17), aces (13-4), blocks (7-3), assists (28-16), and digs (51-43) all favored Campbellsville as it was a match they controlled for a majority of the three sets. CU was led in kills by
Kymbra Kirby as she finished with nine but it was a balanced Lady Tiger attack with
Sonia Flendrich finishing with eight,
Yelyzaveta Sharkova and
Sophie Ball each finishing with five for the match.
Paige Merrick had a solid night setting and defending finishing with a double-double for the match with 18 assists and 12 digs in support of her attacking unit. The defensive play for CU had a strong night with those 51 digs led by libero
Jaimie Thompson with 16 and supported by nine from Flendrich.
The Lady Tigers will be back on the court next Friday and Saturday when they hit the road again to face the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. before heading to Marietta, Ga. to face Life University.
