CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – On a cool, Wednesday evening, the Tigers were able to bounce back as they picked up a 3-0 win over Thomas More.
The Tigers were able to get in on the board on
Kalvin Semedo used his athletic footwork to set up an opportunity for Campbellsville. As Semedo broke past the Saint defense he looked to cross the ball to
Connor Pugh before a Thomas More defender deflected the the cross into the net to give CU a 1-0.
Thomas More's best opportunity came as Ethan Smith looked to breakaway in the 17
th minute. Smith put a shot up, but
Owen Stott was able to make a sliding save to hold the Tiger shutout.
CU had another handful of opportunities shortly before the half ended as
Bailey Greenlees narrowly missed another goal, after a deflection forced the ball over the crossbar.
One minute later, in the 41
st minute,
Gianluca Contegno had two opportunities, as both were blocked by the Thomas More defense.
Calvin Heck followed Contegno's opportunities with a shot of his own, placing it on target as George Tidswell picked up his first save of the match.
As Campbellsville looked to outshoot the Saints in the first half, 9-4, their one goal lead held through the halftime break.
After numerous opportunities to extend the lead in the early part of the second period, the Tigers were unable to extend the one goal advantage for much of play.
In the 63
rd minute, once again, Ethan Smith had an opportunity for the Saints as he forced
Owen Stott to make an athletic save to hold the shutout.
CU was finally able to extend their margin as
Gustavo Izzo recorded a 76
th minute goal, on his first tough of the game, only 45 seconds have entering play.
Two and a half minutes later,
Gustav Oskarsson was able to capitalize on passes from
Bailey Greenlees and
Gustavo Izzo to extend the Tiger lead to 3-0.
In the match, Campbellsville was able to limit the Saints shot attempts to seven in the shutout, outshooting Thomas More 17-7.
CU will return to action on Saturday as they visit Georgetown College on Saturday for a 7 p.m. ET slate.
