Tigers fall in the Battle of Highway 55 after late goal

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted Lindsey Wilson in the Battle of Highway 55 on Wednesday evening, where they fell on an 88th minute goal from the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson was able to score first and last on their way to a 2-1 victory of the Tigers. It was a late header with 2:03 remaining in regulation that proved to be the game winner as Bruno Henrique crossed a ball in front of Owen Stott before Akean Shackleford was able to head it in for the game winning goal.

Shackleford also helped get the scoring started for Lindsey Wilson as he recorded the assist on Rainer De Jesus' seventh minute goal, giving LWC an early 1-0 lead.

The Blue Raiders controlled the shot count in the first half but were held to their early 1-0 lead entering the half.

CU did look to develop some opportunities throughout the half through four corners but were not successful.

The second half, however, the Tigers' play adjusted as they almost matched the Blue Raider shot count in the second half.

In the 58th minute, Marc Lawrence was able to capitalize on the equalizer as he dribbled around the box before firing the shot.

Campbellsville fired six more shots in the half, but were unable to tally another goal, as LWC outshot CU in the half, 8-7.

With the score tied, the Blue Raiders looked threaten late in the half as they picked up seven shots in the final 20 minutes of the half. The sixth ended up being the crucial one with Shackleford's game winner.

The Tigers fall to 10-4-1 and 4-3 in conference play before hosting senior day, November 2nd, for a 4 p.m. ET match against Cumberland University.
