CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville played host to Shawnee State on Saturday afternoon as the Tigers were able to defeat the Bears 3 to 1.
In a game the Tigers were able to control much of play, it was two early goals that gave the Tigers a lead which they never relinquished.
As play began, the Tiger offense received immediate sparks with goals in the 2
nd and 3
rd minutes of play. The first opportunity for Campbellsville came as
Tom Edge was able to find
Connor Pugh, who used the dish to give CU a quick 1-0 lead.
The Tigers then quickly fought the ball back from Shawnee State bringing it back to their side of the field where Azad Illiozer was able to make a quick move past the Bears defense, where he was able to find a hole and put the ball into the back of the net.
The Tigers were able to put up 10 more shots in the period, but were unsuccessful in adding to their early 2-0. The Bears tallied seven shots of their own, but were only able to place two on frame, resulting in save for
Owen Stott.
Following the early Tiger attack, the Campbellsville offense was stalled, as it took 84 more minutes before the Tigers recorded another goal. After 16 shots throughout the second half that could not add to the CU lead,
Connor Pugh was able to capitalize on a pass from
Kalvin Semedo to make it 3-0.
Shawnee State was not dead yet, however as they were able to record a goal with seconds remaining on the clock.
Nonetheless, CU was able to maintain their lead and improve to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0 inside MSC play.
Campbellsville will return to action on Saturday, October 12
th as the visit Union College for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff.
