PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Coming off of their 1,000
th win in program history, the Campbellsville University women's basketball team got to celebrate another 1,000 milestone during their 144-48 win over Simmons College of Kentucky at Pikeville, Ky. on Friday afternoon.
Senior forward
Madison Faulkner recorded her 1,000
th career point in the third quarter of the game to become the 37
th member of the LTB 1,000-point club. Faulkner finished as the team's leading scorer with 16 points on 8-of-9 shooting while adding two rebounds and two steals.
Faulkner led seven double figure scorers for the Lady Tigers as
Lexy Lake and
Ashlee McGeorge had 15,
Savannah Gregory and
Lashaya Carman had 12 points each, and
Sammy Rogers and
Shelby Harmeyer added 11 points apiece off the bench.
For McGeorge, 15 points is her career-high for a game as she added seven rebounds, four of which came on the offensive end. Lake continued her strong three-point shooting through five games this season as all 15 of her points came from behind the arc.
Gregory had a slow start to the game with only two points at halftime but scored 10 of her 12 in the third quarter as she and Faulkner continue to be the only members of CU to have scored double figures in every game this season. Savannah added five rebounds, two steals and two assists.
The Lady Tigers were in a helping mood on Friday as they finished with 31 assists in the game as they recorded an assist on over 67 percent of their baskets made from the field against the Falcons. Only two CU players didn't record points in the game but
Caitlin Hall and
Courtney Pritchett combined for nine of the 31 assists with Hall finishing at six assists while Pritchett added three.
Carman also recorded a career-high for Campbellsville on Friday with her 12-point effort as she also added a career-high six rebounds with three coming on each the offensive and defensive ends.
Simmons was facing an uphill battle at the start of the game as they were only able to travel five of their seven roster players. The Falcons were led in scoring by Alexis Smith as she scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting as she also added a game-high tying seven rebounds.
As a team, Campbellsville shot 46-for-76 (60.5%) percent from the field, 14-for-27 (51.9%) from three, and still struggled a bit from the free throw line at 8-for-13 (61.5%) from the line.
The Lady Tigers will have a quick turnaround for an early 10 a.m. ET tip against Marian University in Pikeville on Saturday. The Knights entered the weekend undefeated in NAIA Division II and faced Pikeville Friday after the conclusion of the Campbellsville and Simmons game.
