McKENZIE, TENN. — Campbellsville used a career-high 21 points on 7-of-9 3-point shooting by sophomore
Lexy Lake to rally for a 90-77 win over a game Brescia Bearcat team today in the Chamber Classic hosted by Bethel University.
The win was the 10th in a row in the Classic for the Lady Tigers and the 998th win in program history. CU (2-0) can reach that 1,000th milestone when they play next weekend in the MSC/Southern States Challenge at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tenn. They play Bethel at 8 ET on Friday.
Brescia (0-4), who has now lost three times to ranked teams this early season, used a sloppy start by CU to race out to a 4-0 lead and kept it close in the first half thanks to perfect (4-of-4) shooting from downtown.
Princess Holloway drained three treys in the first half, but only attempted one more the rest of the game.
Lexy Lake hit three 3s in the first half and then hit three more in the first 3:30 minutes of the second half to propel the Lady Tigers from a 44-43 halftime lead to 60-45 advantage with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter.
It was that third quarter when the Lady Tigers' full-court pressure led to several steals and easy buckets. Brescia turned the ball over 32 times. Campbellsville was credited with 26 steals, led by five each for
Lexy Lake,
Savannah Gregory and
Madison Faulkner.
The Lady Tigers rolled up a 35-17 scoring advantage in the third frame and led 79-60 going into the final 10 minutes.
Campbellsville shot better from 3 (52 percent) than from the free throw line (39 percent), but overall was 50 percent from the field (35-of-70).
Lexy Lake was joined in double figures by Faulkner (15) Madison Shepherd (14), Gregory (13) and
Caitlin Hall (11). Shepherd's 14 were a career-high for her.
Hall was hot from deep to start the game, canning three treys in the first four minutes of the game. Hall added nine assists and four steals to her stat sheet.
Brescia held a 19-9 advantage on the boards in the first half and ultimately led the rebounding battle 35-29.
