PULASKI, Tenn. —Campbellsville broke away from a 22-18 halftime lead by scoring the first eight points of the second half to put away No. 16 Bethel tonight in the opening game of the Mid-South/Southern States Challenge, 54-41, at Martin Methodist University.
The win was the 999th in program history thanks to the double-figure scoring of Caitlin Hall (14), Madison Faulkner (11) and Savannah Gregory (10).
It was Faulkner that initiated the second-half run, scoring six of eight points after Gregory dropped in a layup to open the third quarter. That put Campbellsville up 30-18.
The lead ballooned to 20 (54-34) on a Madison Sheppard layup with 4:50 remaining in the game.
CU (3-0) held the Wildcats (2-1) to 30 percent shooting. The Lady Tigers weren't a lot better (33 percent), but were able to can six 3-pointers and connect on 10-14 free throws. They turned Bethel over 22 times and led the rebounding battle, 42-39.
Courtney Pritchett, in only her third game as a Lady Tiger, tagged a stat line that included four points, five rebounds, four assists and five steals in 34 minutes. She took two charges in the close first half that were instrumental in CU trailing only twice in the game.
Caitlin Hall hit 4-of-5 from deep and Lexy Lake hit two — one at he second-quarter buzzer that sent Campbellsville to intermission with a 22-18 lead.
Faulkner led CU in rebounding with seven. Gregory and Caitlin Hall had six apiece.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action tomorrow at 5 ET against the host school, Martin Methodist.
