Another Barren County Trojannette, Elizabeth Bertram, signs with Lady Tiger Basketball

Story by John Reecer, Glasgow Daily Times

GLASGOW, Ky.  — Barren County girl's basketball senior star Elizabeth Bertram signed with Campbellsville University earlier this semester, the coaching staff has announced recently.

Bertram is the first of four recent signees that will be released within the next week.

Bertram was a part of the Trojanettes last season as they made it all the way to the state tournament after defeating Bowling Green in the Fourth Region Tournament. She was tied for the lead on the team in points per game with 13.6

The senior will play one more season for Barren County after which she will be joining former Trojanette star Bailey Pedigo on Campbellsville's womens basketball team.

"I'm super excited," Bertram said. "Not only do I get to play with Bailey next year which helps a lot because I will know someone, but my family has been supporting me forever which is exciting for them and me. It's just all around a good day."

Bertram went on to say that the combination of playing with Pedigo again, Campbellsville's beautiful campus, and that everyone made her feel at home made the decision easy for her.

The Tigers' head basketball coach Ginger High Colvin was also in attendance at the signing where she was able to say a few words about her future player.

"We are so excited to get her with us," Colvin said. I've been able to watch her play and get to know her. We know we got a good one. We know we got a great player, but we know we got a great person too. We are super excited about getting this official today."

During her time with the Trojanettes, Bertram has already notched over 1,000 points while helping to lead the program to back-to-back-to-back 20-win seasons, two district championships, and a regional championship.

She has been playing from Barren County since she was in eighth grade which has given her head coach Piper Lindsey the opportunity to watch Bertram grow as a player.

"She played a little varsity then," Lindsey said when Bertram first played for the Trojanettes in eighth grade. "I was talking with the coaches early and I told them that she would make a spectacular play and then a couple plays later it would be the opposite of a spectacular play. She has come a long way since then. We are extremely proud of her."

Despite the memorable day for Bertram, there is still more work to be done. Barren County finished 33-5 overall last season and fell just a little shy of the state championship game. Now, Bertram is the only starter slated to return for the 2019-20 season.

"I've definitely got to take on a leadership role," Bertram said. "That's going to be a big deal because almost all of our starting five last year has left. That and just getting as close to the team as possible is what I'm looking to improve to upon."

"I talked to her early and asked if she was satisfied with what she has accomplished already," Lindsey added. "Luckily, she is not. She is ready to do big things this year and hopefully play more than just two games at Rupp (Arena). I can't say enough about how good of a person she is."

Bertram and the rest of the Trojanettes are slated to begin their season on Dec. 3 against Green County High School. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Barren County High School.
