Late golden goal ends run at NAIA Championship for Tiger soccer

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — A goal in the 103rd minute ended Campbellsville University men's soccer's run to an NAIA National Championship late on Friday night.

The Tigers lost to Keiser University, 3-2, after a late golden goal by Giorgia Resnati. Campbellsville falls to 12-6-1 on the year and the overtime games haven't been its friend with an 0-3-1 record. CU will now head to the NCCAA National Championship as an at-large selection on Dec. 2-7 in Kissimmee, Florida.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, the Tiger's offense found a spark as Azad Iliozer found Tom Edge in the 58thminute to equalize the contest at 1-all. That lead didn't last long as the Seahawks (12-5-1) went back ahead five minutes later with a Sebastian Espino score in the 63rd

Campbellsville got right back in the game just six minutes later though after the flurry of goals ended with a Gustavo Izzo goal and the score at 2-2.

That was all either team would see until the 103rd minute goal by Resnati.

Late in regulation, the Tigers had multiple chances. Iliozer had an opportunity in the 78th minute but his shot sailed wide. Then in the 89th minute, Kalvin Semedo had his shot saved by Ramo Talenti.

Talenti finished with six saves overall – three in each half. On the flip side, Owen Stott finished with three saves in the 103 minutes of play.

Keiser moves on to play host William Carey University on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET in the Opening Round finals.

Campbellsville's season will continue for another three weeks as the Tigers travel to Austin-Tindall Sports Complex seeking their first NCCAA Championship in program history.

More information on opponents and game times will be released next week.
