Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | CU Athletics

Oskarson scores twice and Goikoetxia puts finishing touches on 3-nil win over Bethesda

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Two goals by Gustav Oskarsson and another by Eleder Goikoetxea leads Campbellsville University into NCCAA Championship Pool Play with a 3-nil win over Bethesda University.

The two-seeded Tigers scored twice in the first half and another just a few minutes after halftime to dominate the entire game. CU finished with 21 shots and the Tigers' Owen Stott did not face a shot in goal all night.

Seventh-seeded Bethesda falls to 7-8 overall, while the Tigers improve to 13-6-1. Campbellsville currently leads its pool by scoring three times and not allowing a goal. No. 5-seeded Judson University is slated to play Tuesday and Wednesday for their pool play games.

Pool play Records, goals scored, goals allowed, and goal differential are key factors in selecting the fourth team into the NCCAA semifinal.

Today's win was a good start to the championship and it started with great passing. Oskarsson scored in the 17th minute after a corner by Azad Iliozer that reached the other side of the box. Iliozer found Connor Grant and his pass was barely finished near post with a slow-rolling attempt.

The second goal was a no-doubter though. A throw in by the Tigers around the 18-yard box led to another Oskarsson score – assisted by Tom Edge and Connor Pugh. Pugh found it far post, passed to Edge, who then found Oskarsson.

The third score just a few minutes into the second half was a beauty. After a foul by Bethesda just outside the box, Marc Lawrence used an easy pass to Goikoetxea and his shot was a bullet far post.

Things got chippy at the end for both squads but the Tigers handled themselves with class.

Campbellsville now have a day off on Tuesday to prepare for a battle with five-seeded Judson University. Kickoff on Wednesday, Dec. 4 is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET at Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.
