PULASKI, Tenn. — Savannah Gregory scored 19 points and had four steals as the Lady Tigers validated their program's 1,000th win today, defeated Martin Methodist, 91-59, in the Mid-South/Southern States Challenge.
"We didn't talk about it a whole lot, just told them that we were shooting for a thousand and that we have a lot of pride and there were a lot of people before them that contributed to this," said head coach Ginger High Colvin.
Facing a height disadvantage, CU (4-0) applied a lot of pressure — forcing 26 turnovers and scoring 44 points off of them.
Lexy Lake had four of the team's 14 steals and scored 16 points. Madison Faulkner, who led the team with five boards, also scored 16.
Campbellsville raced to a 25-14 first-quarter lead with a 10-4 run to close out the first 10 minutes.
The Redhawks (3-2) put together a pretty good second frame, outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-14 to close the gap to 39-33 at the intermission.
But Campbellsville continued to apply pressure in the third period, scoring eight points in less than a minute to push out to a 54-40 lead. Lexy Lake hit a 3, and a bucket off a steal and then Gregory stole an inbounds pass and converted an and-one.
By the time the dust settled on the third quarter, CU led 71-48.
The Lady Tigers shared the ball well with 19 assists on 35 made baskets. Caitlin Hall led everyone with eight assists.
Maria Zimdars led Methodist with 15 points and Brooklyn Blanchard added 12.
The Redhawks led the rebounding battle 20-14 in the first half, but Campbellsville closed that margin to 38-37 at the final buzzer.
The Lady Tigers now move on to a Friday contest against Simmons in the Walter's Auto Classic at 2 p.m. ET in Pikeville's East Kentucky Expo Center.
