Lady Tigers wrestling picks up fifth win over ranked opponent to start season

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — For the second time this season, No. 3 Lady Tiger wrestling took down a Top 10 University of the Cumberlands squad. Campbellsville won 29-16 on Friday night in Gosser Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers won the first three matches of the night to set the tone. No. 7 McKenzie Bacich, No. 2 McKayla Campbell and No. 3 Katlyn Pizzo all won their respective weight classes with dominance. Bacich took down No. 12 Olivia Coyne with a 10-0 tech fall while Campbell and Pizzo both picked up pins less than 43 seconds into their match.

The Patriots got on the board and brought the dual to a seven-point difference after Madison Angelito won 10-7 over Adriana Lopez and Cynthia Pelayo pinned No. 5 Charlotte Fowler.

After moving to No. 1 in her weight class, Abby Nette got the Lady Tigers back ahead by 10 points with a 12-2 tech fall at 136 pounds.

Bridgette Duty kept the Patriots alive at 143 with a tech fall over No. 12 Randi Robison, 14-2, but it was a freshman Lady Tiger that sealed the dual. Mhina Oseitutu earned a 10-0 tech fall over Kailee Godinez to put CU ahead, 24-13.

The final win of the night came from no. 3 Kenya Sloan dominating No. 8 Jesse Kirby at 170 pounds with a 10-0 tech fall.

Cumberlands' Angela Buenrrostro upset Liliana Rose Vergara to end the night with a 12-4 decision.

Campbellsville improves its duals record to 5-0 on the year – all of them over Top 11 programs in the country.
