Lady Tigers hold off third quarter surge from Lindsey Wilson to win MSC opener 86-65

COLUMBIA, Ky. – A 29-10 second quarter, giving the Campbellsville University women's basketball team a 22-point advantage, carried the Lady Tigers to earning a win in their first Mid-South Conference game by a final of 86-65 over Lindsey Wilson College.

Despite holding that 22-point halftime lead, the Blue Raiders cut it to just a 12-point lead with just about three minutes left to go in the third quarter at 54-42. CU finished the quarter on a 10-2 run after a pair of three pointers from Savannah Gregory and Lexy Lake as the first baskets from the field for the Lady Tigers in the quarter at around the 2:50 mark.

After the rare third quarter where Campbellsville was outscored by LWC, they finished the game off outscoring Lindsey Wilson 23-20 to keep their lead comfortably around 20 points for the remainder of the game.

Lake and Gregory led the way for the Lady Tigers in the scoring category with 17 apiece as the two also combined for five steals and eight rebounds. CU also got double figures from Madison Faulkner (16) and Sammy Rogers, who added 11 off the bench.

A dominant second quarter carried the Lady Tigers to a 48-26 lead into the halftime break after only leading by three at the end of the first quarter at 19-16. Rogers had a strong first half with six points in the first quarter to help pull Campbellsville out of a deficit and into the lead.

CU started the second quarter on an extended 17-4 run to grow their lead to 36-20 as Gregory scored all 10 of her first half points in the period. Campbellsville's defense played a big part of their first half efforts, forcing 14 giveaways from LWC in the first half including a pair of offensive fouls early in the second quarter drawn by Courtney Pritchett and Caitlin Hall.

With the win, the Lady Tigers move to 12-0 overall and take an early 1-0 Mid-South Conference record into the remainder of their non-conference schedule to finish out the month of December.

Immediately up next for the Lady Tigers will be a meeting on Monday with Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn. before they come to Campbellsville in a week for a game between the two teams in the Powell Athletic Center.
