NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A quick turnaround after opening Mid-South Conference play two days ago saw the Campbellsville University women's basketball team earn a 100-48 victory on the road against Fisk University on Monday night.
The Lady Tigers started out a little slow, only exiting the first quarter up 18-12 but they were able to pull a little further to gain a 40-24 halftime lead. CU struggled form the field over the first 20 minutes, only shooting 35.3 percent during the first half.
In that half
Madison Faulkner and
Lexy Lake were the only members of the Lady Tigers to score more than four points in the first half as they each had 11. The team's shooting struggles from the field were aided by a solid half from the free throw line as they went 13-for-17 (76.5%) during the half.
Campbellsville got cooking in the second half on their way to outscoring Fisk 31-11 in the third quarter. The star of the second half was redshirt junior guard
Cristin Hall as she scored a career-high 15 points off the bench with 12 of her 15 coming in the third quarter.
Hall scored 10-straight points on her own during a stretch in the third as she hit a layup, back-to-back three pointers, then followed it up with another lay-up to go on a 10-0 run on her own. She added a pair of free throws late in the third quarter and another three pointer in the fourth quarter to finish with her career-high 15.
Both Lake and Faulkner finished with 14 points as
Madison Sheppard joined the three in double figures adding 13 off the bench on 6-of-9 shooting from the field.
Ashlee McGeorge and
Savannah Gregory each added nine points with McGeorge grabbing six rebounds and Gregory a single point and rebound away from a double-double.
The CU defense was strong once again against Fisk, forcing 32 turnovers out of the Bulldogs as well as holding them to 36.7 percent shooting in the game. The Bulldogs got 15 points from Miyana Foree along with 14 points and 10 rebounds from Ileah Chambly.
These two teams will meet back up in five days when Fisk comes to Campbellsville for a Saturday afternoon matchup at the Powell Athletic center for a 2 p.m. ET tip.
