Lady Tigers fall late to Emmanuel College to conclude regular season

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — Emmanuel College won four of the final five matches on Thursday night to come from behind to beat Lady Tiger wrestling, 22-18.

The Lady Tigers led 15-4 after the 130-pound match but the Lions won the final four matches – all earning bonus points.

Katelin Barnett got the scoring going at 101 lbs. with a forfeit win and McKayla Campbell followed suit with a 10-0 tech fall to put CU ahead, 9-0. But that was the final win for CU that the Lady Tigers earned bonus points until the 170-pound match.

Elena Hughes lost at 116 lbs. to Kasey Baynon with a 10-0 tech fall to cut the lead to 9-4. Reigning Mid-South Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week, Koral Sugiyama earned a 7-2 win over Alex Herle and 2017 WCWA National Champ Andribeth Rivera won 8-0 at 130 pounds to put CU ahead, 15-4.

But then it went downhill from there. Sophia Carson lost at 136 with a 11-0 tech fall, the 143-pound match was a forfeit loss for Campbellsville and Alexia Foca lost via tech fall 12-2 at 155 lbs. to allow Emmanuel to take its first lead, 17-15.

Kenya Sloan gave the lead right back to the Lady Tigers, 19-17, with a 11-0 tech fall but Alexandra Castillo was pinned in 30 seconds by Kaylee Seabolt to seal the win for the Lions.

With the loss, Campbellsville falls to 9-5 on the year in duals. The Lady Tigers will now hit the road for the WCWA National Championship next week in Marietta, Ga. Hosted at Life University on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 8-9.
