CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville men's volleyball was dominant in their 3-0 sweep win over Midway University Tuesday night at the Gosser Gymnasium. The Tigers won each set handily with a 25-11 first set, 25-12 second set, and a 25-15 final set.
The serve was a big weapon for CU as they scored 12 aces in the match, including the clinching point of the night as
Joudiel Poveymirow slammed a serve down for the win. Poveymirow, normally the libero for the Tigers started and played full rotation to also lead the Tigers with 10 kills in the match.
Poveymirow also scored the first point of the match with a kill that started an 8-0 run for Campbellsville to start the match. In the 8-0 run opening server
Jose Viera Cerame recorded four aces before finally committing an error on the ninth serve.
As a team, eight players recorded a kill with five recorded three or more kills in the match.
Jeremy Hernandez returned to his normal setting position to record 22 assists on the 30 CU kills. Viera Cerame moved to the libero position for the Tigers as he recorded a team-high 10 digs on defense.
The Tigers attacked for a .344 hitting percentage in the match and it was mostly without their top-two hitters on the season.
Jason Camacho only recorded a kill on one attempt in the first set and
Rafael Cruz did not see the floor in the match.
Campbellsville will have seven days without a match until they host Cincinnati Christian at the Gosser Gymnasium next Wednesday. The Tigers and CCU played at the Gosser earlier this season where CU won in a sweep.
