Baseball Rain 5-5-18

Tigers and Union Bulldogs forced to move game again; First pitch on Thursday at 2:00

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville baseball team's road game that was originally scheduled for this Tuesday at Union College, was rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon earlier in the week but has been postponed until Thursday.

With the constant rain in the state of Kentucky over the last few days and the forecast of rain in Barbourville tomorrow, both programs decided their best chance to play this week's game was to play it on Thursday, where the forecast calls for no rain.

This weekend's series at Reinhardt University is still planned to be played as scheduled but updates about the weekend will be posted on campbellsvilletigers.com if changes are made.

Full preview vs. Union

After a successful trip in their first series of the season, Campbellsville baseball will hit the road for their first midweek game of the season against Union College. Due to scheduling conflicts, the game will not be broadcasted live on the CU Sports Network.

The Tigers went 3-1 at William Carey over the weekend giving up a total of seven runs in four games and scoring 17 runs themselves. Offensively CU was led by catcher Austin Peterson who hit for a .583 batting average with three doubles and a three-run home run in the series on his way to winning Mid-South Conference Player of the Week.

As a team, CU hit three home runs in the series as Adbiel Morales and Ian Nowak each blasted round trippers over the weekend. Tyson Solis was a catalyst at the top of the Campbellsville order getting on base eight times in 16 plate appearances scoring four runs at the leadoff spot.

The pitching staff made a great first impression over the weekend as nine pitchers combined for 29 innings with a 1.86 ERA and an opponents batting average of .181. Starting pitchers Eric LittleAnthony Arias, and Tyler Deason all picked up their first wins of the season on the mound with Gage O'Brien and Jesse Davis earning saves out of the bullpen.

The Bulldogs of Union College are 4-1 so far on the season with a three-game sweep over Shawnee State and winning 1-of-2 against No. 10 Northwestern Ohio.

Nick Shumaker has hit the only two home runs for UC on the season and leads the team with 10 RBIs as he started all five games at third base. On the mound, the Bulldogs have put up a solid 3.60 ERA so far with an opponent's batting average of .219. The staff has been led by AJ Villa, who currently has a 2-0 record in two starts with a complete game shutout and 11 innings pitched.

After Thursday's game, the Tigers will get ready for another four-game series, this time against Reinhardt University. The series will be in Waleska, Ga. with a pair of doubleheaders scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
