Harris wins national championship; Tigers sit in fifth after day one the at NCCAA Championships

CEDARVILLE, Ohio — Senior Corbin Harris won the 5000m NCCAA National Championship and Campbellsville is sitting in fifth place after day one of the Indoor Track and Field National Championship.

Harris led the team in scoring this evening as he became only the second individual in indoor track program history to become a national champion. Harris won the 5000m run with a time of 15:25.48 beating out Cedarville's Russell Schultz by 17 seconds to his 15:42.77. Harris made his winning move with five laps to go in the race and did not look back as his lead grew larger with each passing lap.

Chris Stoeckel was able to help Harris earn a point in the event with an eighth place finishing time of 16:16.29
 
Brayden Russell was the only other Tiger to score on the day. He participated in the high jump this evening as he placed sixth in the event with a height of 1.90m. Russell has cleared over 2.00m so far this year and has already qualified for the NAIA National Championship in two weeks.
 
Jeremiah Parker and Caleb Costin participated in the weight throw this evening. Parker lead the duo with a throw of 13.84m and Costin's distance came in at 13.32m. The duo was unable to score points in the event.
 
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow morning with events starting at 9:00.
