Reinhardt sweeps doubleheader with walk-off and shutout as Tiger offense struggles

WALESKA, Ga. – A two-game total of six runs was scored between No. 14 Campbellsville and No. 20 Reinhardt University in their doubleheader Saturday. The Eagles were able to pull off the sweep with a 10thinning walk-off in game one and a 1-0 shutout win in game two.

The home run ball played a big factor in game one as that's how Reinhardt took their 2-0 lead in the fifth inning as Hector Torres hit a two-run shot to right. Back-to-back doubles by Tyson Solis and Adbiel Morales got a run back in the top of the sixth as the 2-1 Eagle lead held until the top of the ninth.

In their last at-bats, for the time being, DePaul Blunt led off the inning with a solo home run to left to tie the game. The Tigers continued to get two runners on with no outs before a strikeout and double play ended the threat with the score tied 2-2.

In the top of the 10th, Tony Fonzo smacked a one-out double to right-center followed by a Donnel Bailey walk before Blunt was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. CU came up empty once again

Reinhardt used two bunts and a hit to seal their victory in the bottom of the 10thas the leadoff hitter, Ben Heideman, was hit by a pitch, moved to second with a sacrifice bunt before advancing to third on a single. Then the Eagles went to the squeeze play as Devin Symlar laid down the bunt scoring Heideman for the win.

Campbellsville starter Eric Little went five innings, giving up two runs on six hits before CU went to Parker Loutensock. Loutensock went three shutout innings, not allowing a hit with only one strikeout. Jesse Davis threw a scoreless ninth and returned in the 10thbefore being removed for Mikey Hooper after hitting the batter to lead off the 10th.

In game two, Reinhardt starter Daniel Dolensky went the full nine innings to shutout the Tigers giving up six hits and striking out nine. Dolensky had a heavy workload, facing 32 total batters and throwing 132 pitches to get the shutout.

CU went three-up, three-down in each of the first three innings before recording their first hit with two outs in the fourth on another Fonzo double. The Tigers were only able to produce multiple hits in one inning, the sixth, but had a runner caught stealing before having two runners on base at the same time.

The Tigers only used pitchers in starter Anthony Arais and Malcom Grady, who only gave up a single run on 10 total hits while striking out seven. Arias went 5.1 innings before being removed with a runner on third and one out in the sixth. Grady gave up a single to the first batter he faced to score the only run the Eagles would need in the game.

Campbellsville will return home to host their home opener on Tuesday against Indiana University Southeast with another home game at HIG Field next Wednesday against Midway University. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET with the start is subject to change based on weather conditions.
