CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville baseball will play their first home game of the 2019 season on Tuesday when they host Indiana University Southeast at HIG Field.
First pitch between the Grenadiers and Tigers is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. ET with the time subject to change based on weather.
CU is coming off of an 0-2 weekend at Reinhardt last Saturday when the Eagles took both ends of their doubleheader. The Tigers scored a total of two runs in the two games after losing game one 3-2 in 10 innings and dropping a 1-0 game in game two.
Offensively, the Tigers are led by the table setter in
Tyson Solis, who is hitting for a .464 batting average in the first seven games of the season. Solis has started all seven games at center field, has gotten on base on over half of his plate appearances while adding three doubles so far in the early going.
So far, there are five CU hitters that have over 20 at bats so far in the season and all of them are hitting over the .300 mark. Behind Solis,
Tony Fonzo (.409),
Austin Peterson (.381),
Donnel Bailey (.318), and
Adbiel Morales (.300) make up the rest of the top-five in the Tiger order and have 22 of the 26 RBIs on the season.
On the mound, the Tigers will likely look to
Brenden Nipp, who started last week's midweek game against Union, going 3.2 innings while giving up three earned runs on six hits and striking out six.
A number of pitchers have had early success out of the Campbellsville bullpen, led by the scoreless five combined innings from
Gage O'Brien and
Jesse Davis while also getting 5.1 innings out of
Parker Loutensock posting a 1.69 ERA in two relief appearances so far.
Indiana University Southeast is 2-3 so far this season with their two wins coming against ranked opponents in No. 19 University of the Cumberlands and No. 15 Bryan College.
The Grenadiers also have five batters hitting above the .300 mark to start the year as they are led by Clay Woeste who's hitting .400 (6-15) with five runs scored and a home run.
On the mound, two pitchers have two started for the Grenadiers with opposite results. Jack Wohlert is 2-0 with a 4.35 ERA and Grant Bradley is 0-2 with a 12.46 ERA in their first two starts of the season.
After Tuesday's opener, the Tigers are scheduled to host another midweek game at HIG Field against Midway University on Wednesday. First pitch for Wednesday's game is also scheduled for 2:30 and is subject to change based on weather conditions.
