Tigers use late run to seal season sweep over rival Lindsey Wilson, 84-75

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Tiger basketball shot over 50 percent in each half and all five starters scored in double figures to seal the season sweep over Lindsey Wilson College Saturday afternoon, 84-75.

The Tigers lit a flame to the nets overall, hitting 32-of-60 from the floor and 10 Edward Jones 3-point field goals. CU was also near perfect at the free throw line, hitting 10-of-11.

Lindsey Wilson wasn't too shabby either, hitting 47 percent overall (28-of-60), also making 10 3-pointers and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

Campbellsville was led on the night by Stephaun Adams' 20 points – 13 of those in the second half -  and he finished a rebound shy of a double-double with nine. The ever-elusive triple-double was in Adams' sights as he also had six assists.

Hagen Tyler had 19 points, as both Adams and Tyler had multiple 3s, while Ronald Taylor stepped up and nailed three big triples to pitch in 13 points. Andrew Smith and Deion Evans rounded out the starters with 14 and 10, respectively.

The back and forth affair started early but Campbellsville raced out to an eight-point lead, 30-22, with 6:20 left in the first half after Adams and Evans combined for seven points starting a mini 7-0 run.

Lindsey Wilson head coach and former Tiger coach Keith Adkins called a timeout to cool the hot hands of CU. It worked and the Blue Raiders answered with a 6-0 run out of the timeout before Tyler nailed a jumper in the left corner with 3:20 left. He capped the scoring in the first half with his first of two 3-point baskets at the 56-second mark to give CU a 35-30 lead heading into halftime.

Lindsey Wilson started the second half how it started the first – a 3-point basket and 5-0 run to knot the contest at 35-all. The Blue Raiders ended up regaining the lead, 40-39, with 16:37 left but Smith, Evans and Adams all scored on consecutive possessions to push CU ahead, 46-42.

With 5:18 left, Lindsey Wilson worked the lead down to three once more, 67-64, but Taylor nailed back-to-back 3-point baskets, Tyler hit a mid-range jumper and Joan Duran hit a triple to push CU out to a 78-65 lead – a 11-1 run for Campbellsville and the largest lead of the night for the Tigers.

In the final 2:40, Campbellsville didn't hit any field goals, but the Tigers hit free throws when it counted to ice the game. Taylor and Adams hit all four free throw attempts to close it out.

Campbellsville will now host four-straight games in the Powell Athletic Center starting on Thursday, Feb. 7 against University of the Cumberlands. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET.
