Huge second half run pushes Tigers to 91-83 senior night victory over Shawnee State

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A night that started with five seniors being honored for their careers at Campbellsville ended with four of the five scoring in double figures as the Tigers beat Shawnee State 91-83.

Led by an all-around performance of 26 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and four blocks from Andrew Smith, the Tigers were able to get their second-straight win and fifth win in their last six games. Smith's four blocked made him the all-time leading shot blocker in program history as he now has 107, passing the 105 set by Damontre Harris in the 2014-15 season.

The four starting seniors of Smith, Stephaun Adams, Hagen Tyler and Deion Evans scored 76 of the Tigers 91 points and played all but 21 of the 200 available minutes for players in the game.

Adams scored 22 for his fifth-straight 20-point game, while adding seven rebounds and six steals for CU. Adams went 5-for-10 from three in the game, hitting four of his three pointers in the second half, where the Tigers his nine as a team.

Tyler hit another scoring milestone with his 16-point performance, moving to fourth place all time in Campbellsville men's basketball history passing Todd Armes. Tyler now sits at  1,887 total points scored in hit career, 113 points away from becoming the fourth member of the 2,000 point club.

Evans was all over the floor on Thursday, scoring 12 points and grabbing a pair of steals in 21 minutes. Evans got the Powell Athletic Center rocking early in the game by throwing down an alley-oop dunk on the fast break over SSU's Gio Jackson.

After that dunk, the Tigers led 5-0 before the Bears went on a 17-2 run over the next four minutes to eventually climb to a 12-point lead at 21-9. CU climbed back into the game finishing the half down a point at 36-35 as Smith finished the half with his first of three, three-pointers in the game.
Another Smith three gave Campbellsville a 63-61 lead at the 10-minute mark of the second half before the Tigers went on a 15-0 run over the next three minutes.

That run was emphasized by a three-pointers from Evans and Ronald Taylor. In the middle of those threes, Smith's only steal of the game got the CU bench on their feet as the 6-10 forward dove to the floor after tipping the ball away from Bears' guard Tamal Watkins, which led to a high arcing layup from Adams.

For the last seven minutes of the game, the Tigers never led by less than the final margin of eight points to finish off the game. CU moves to a 21-7 overall record and a 7-6 conference record with the final game of the regular season coming on Saturday at No. 11 Pikeville.
