Lady Tigers complete perfect MSC regular season with 82-63 win over Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Going undefeated in the toughest conference in America is a big feat but No. 3 Lady Tiger Basketball sealed that today. Campbellsville upended University of Pikeville by 19 points, 82-63.

The Lady Tigers are now 28-2 on the year and finished 14-0 in the Mid-South Conference. CU will be the No. 1-seed in the upcoming conference tournament which starts in Pikeville's East Kentucky Expo Center Friday, March 1.

It was a big first quarter and fourth quarter that Campbellsville was able to run away with the victory. The Lady Tigers had the biggest scoring output of the afternoon with a 29-point first quarter. In that frame, Campbellsville was 13-of-19 from the floor and forced 10 UPIKE turnovers.

Madison Faulkner scored 10 of her 18 points in the first quarter and was 5-of-6 from the floor.

The second quarter wasn't as friendly for Campbellsville. After not surrendering a foul in the opening frame, CU allowed the Bears to get in the bonus with six-minutes left in the quarter. With the pace of play slowing, the Lady Tigers got out of their rhythm and went only 5-of-16 from the field.

The Bears outscored CU, 21-13, in the quarter and cut the lead to single digits, 42-34.

The third quarter started with a Madison Kaiser 3-point and late in the third quarter, the Lady Tigers went on a big run capped with a buzzer beating triple by Caitlin Hall. The Bears were able to cut the lead seven points, 57-50, with 3:03 left but Faulkner scored back-to-back buckets, Jordan Doram scored two of her 10, and Hall nailed the 3-pointer in the corner to end the frame.

CU stepped its defense up in the final quarter and held Pikeville to only nine points. The dagger came at the 2:15 mark as Kaiser hit her third 3-pointer of the day to cap her afternoon with 13 points. That ballooned the Lady Tiger lead back to 19 points.

Overall, the Lady Tigers hit 54 percent from the floor (33-of-61), while Pikeville hit exactly 50 percent (23-of-46). But the Lady Tigers forced 22 turnovers and scored 20 points off those miscues.

Other notables – Savannah Gregory finished the day with four steals to jump head coach Ginger High Colvin's single-season mark with now 126 swipes. Caitlin Hall finished the day with nine points, four rebounds but dished out seven assists and moved her to fourth on the single-season list.

The MSC will announced the brackets later tonight as CU earned the No. 1-seed and will play at 10 a.m. ET on Friday, March 1 in the opening round.
