CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After games between Campbellsville and No. 12 Tennessee Wesleyan were moved off of three different dates, the two baseball teams will finally be able to hit the field on Tuesday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
The Tigers have seen game action since last Tuesday's home opening against Indiana University Southeast, where they lost 17-9. The Bulldogs last game competition was against Indiana Institute of Technology on Feb. 16.
In CU's 17-9 loss to IU-Southeast, the Tigers had multi-hit games from the top and bottom spots of the order in
Tyson Solis and
Marco Murillo. Murillo had the big swing of the day with a second inning grand slam that tied the score at the time at 4-4.
The standout on the mound for Campbellsville was
Jesse Davis, who pitched three relief innings, allowing no runs, giving up a hit with three strikeouts. After Davis was removed, the Tigers struggled on the mound as the combination of
Mikey Hooper and
Gage O'Brien gave up 12 runs, 10 earned, in 2.1 combined innings.
TWU is 11-2 in the early going so far this season, as they won 11-straight games to start the season before dropping their most recent two against Indiana Tech.
On the mound, the Bulldogs have a 3.25 team ERA with five starters with a 3.75 ERA or lower. Jack Granath is the Bulldogs' leader in innings pitched at 16 with a 2.25 ERA and a 2-1 record in four appearances and three starts.
At the plate, TWU has eight players hitting over .300 with double-digit games played so far on the season. Infielder Jhosmel Rodriguez is 12-for-30 (.400) in 12 games and 11 starts with two doubles and a triple. As a team, the Bulldogs have hit 11 home runs in 13 games led by two players with three home runs apiece in Adrian Marquez and Bryce Giles.
After this doubleheader on Tuesday the Tigers will return home to prepare for their first weekend home series of the season against Siena Heights University. The Tigers and Saints will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET to wrap up the series.
