LEBANON, Tenn. – Campbellsville University men's volleyball won their fourth-straight match in a sweep victory over the Phoenix of Cumberland University Tuesday night. The Tigers won in a 3-0 sweep, their third sweep of the winning streak, as they move their Mid-South Conference record to 4-2.
The Tigers won the first set by a huge margin at 25-9 as they recorded 16 kills, three aces and two blocks. The second and third sets were closer contests as Campbellsville took the second 25-20 and the third 26-24. In the third, CU had to pull out a comeback effort as they trailed by as many as six points on multiple occasions and never led until they took the 26-24 set win.
CU was led on the attack by
Jason Camacho, who slammed home 13 kills as the only player on each side to record double digit kills. Camacho hit for a .440 hitting percentage in the match with his 13 kills coming on 25 attacks with only two attack errors.
The freshman from Orlando, Fla. had been setting for the Tigers over the last couple of matches before head coach
Eric Snyder moved Camacho back to his outside hitter role Tuesday night. With his move back, placed
Jeremy Hernandez back into his standard role of setter, where the junior assisted on 32 of the 43 Tiger kills.
The middle blocking combination of
Nils Kleinschmidt and
Noah Henkel had a standout night combining for 11 kills on 16 attacks. The pair of freshmen from Germany also helped block a shot each as the Tigers ended the match with three blocks.
Campbellsville men's volleyball will step away from Mid-South Conference action for a home-and-home set of games against Thomas More College. CU will first travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. on Friday to face the Saints before they host TMC next Tuesday at the Gosser Gymnasium.
