No. 4 Lady Tigers roll past Cumberlands in first of four-straight home games

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — A big first half and solid defense aided No. 4 Campbellsville to a dominating 83-48 win over University of the Cumberlands Thursday night.

The Lady Tigers (24-2, 10-0 MSC) allowed eight points in the second quarter and six in the fourth, holding Cumberlands (12-13, 0-10 MSC) to 16-of-50 overall and forced 32 turnovers.

A plethora of Lady Tigers had solid nights on the offensive ends, while six had multi-steal performances.

Savannah Gregory led the way with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting including an Edward Jones 3-pointer. Caitlin Hall once again showed why she's the best point guard in the country by hitting the open shots and getting others involved. She finished with 13 points, six assists and three rebounds. Jordan Doram also scored in double figured with 10 off the bench.

Hall got the scoring going early with the first 3-pointer of the night with just over three minutes gone in the quarter to cap a 13-2 run for Campbellsville. After a timeout by Cumberlands, the Patriots were able to work the lead to just one, 20-19, but Lexy Lake banged a 3 with 23 seconds left in the opening quarter to put CU ahead, 25-20.

The second quarter is when Campbellsville made its mark. The Lady Tigers out-scored Cumberlands, 22-8, and flipped a five-point lead into a 19-point halftime advantage. The biggest factor in the second frame was the defense CU played. The Lady Tigers forced seven turnovers in the frame and Cumberlands only hit three field goals.

The third quarter started with a BANG as Madison Stewart hit her only 3 of the night extending the Lady Tiger lead to 23 points, 54-31.

Campbellsville rolled the rest of the way. The eight points Cumberlands scored in the second quarter was the lowest point total all season for the Patriots in a frame, but Campbellsville out-did that in the fourth by holding UC to a season-low six points.

The win keeps Campbellsville ahead of the Mid-South Conference by 2 ½ games in the standings. The Lady Tigers will host Life University on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET for the second of four-straight Mid-South Conference games in the Powell Athletic Center.
