Gregory's triple double leads Lady Tigers one game closer to clinching Mid-South Conference

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — A triple-double is a rare feat but to do it in 23 minutes and to eclipse the mark with double-digit steals is even more impressive. Savannah Gregory did that on Saturday in an 85-52 win over Life University.

Gregory scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and tallied 10 steals for the first triple-double since Whitney Ballinger did so on March 17, 2010 against LSU-Shreveport in the NAIA Tournament – the day after being named the NAIA Player of the Year. And she did that in 36 minutes of play.

Campbellsville's win improved the Lady Tigers to 25-2 and 11-0 inside Mid-South Conference play. The Lady Tigers will now be able to clinch the regular season title in the MSC on Thursday night against Georgetown College after Lindsey Wilson beat Shawnee State on Saturday. CU holds a three-game lead in the standings with three games left the next two weeks.

Fouls were the name of the game today as a total of 48 fouls were called and Campbellsville went to the free throw line 48 times – making 35 (73%). CU also forced 35 Life turnovers and scored 27 points off those miscues.

The Lady Tigers started today ice cold from the floor but an 8-0 run at the end of the first quarter put CU ahead, 18-9. The offense was spread around pretty evenly throughout the first 15+ minutes, as Jordan Doram had eight points, Gregory had seven, and a pair of Madisons had six – Madison Stewart and Madison Faulkner – with 4:46 left in the second quarter.

Doram finished the first half as the only Lady Tiger to tally double figures with 11 points.

The third quarter started quick with an 8-0 run and CU hold the Running Eagles scoreless for almost four minutes and the Lady Tigers extended their lead to 29 points in a blink of the eye, 57-28.

CU pushed the lead to 30 points for the first time after a Lashaya Carman basket with 2:39 left in regulation and Campbellsville's biggest lead of the day came after a Carman and-one with 33 ticks left.

The bench scoring was a key component today. The Lady Tigers out-scored Life off the bench, 41-23. Doram led the way with 14 off the bench, while Ashlee McGeorge scored seven with seven rebounds – pushing her weekly total to 13 boards in 18 minutes of action. Lexy Lake also was key off the bench, scoring eight points and hitting the lone two Edward Jones 3-point baskets for the Lady Tigers in the game.

Life University drops to 14-9 overall and 4-7 inside the MSC. The Running Eagles were led by two players with nine points – Tierra Tullis and Sydney Garnigan.

Campbellsville will now welcome Georgetown College to the Powell Athletic Center on Thursday night with the doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. ET.
