Tigers stay home for Tuesday doubleheader against Indiana Southeast

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A busy week for Campbellsville baseball will begin this Tuesday with a pair of seven-inning games against the Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast at HIG Field.

The Tigers are riding a three-game winning streak after most recently winning back-to-back games against Fisher College by the identical score of 11-5.

These two teams met at HIG Field in CU's home opener on Feb. 19 where IU-Southeast won by a final score of 17-9. In that game, the Grenadiers had two five-run innings and two three-run innings to help take an early lead, regain a lead and pull away in that game.

Since that game, Indiana Southeast has gone 10-4 over the last three weeks to move their overall record to 13-7. On the other side, Campbellsville has only played 14 total games this season, bringing their record back to .500 at 7-7.

The Grenadiers have four players with 17 or more starts in their 20 games that are hitting above .300 on the season. That is led by third baseman Daniel Brescia who is at a .386 average so far with a .534 on base percentage. Cody Maloon, Clay Woeste and Brody Tanksley are all over .300 with a combined 35 RBIs with Brescia added to the mix.

CU's offense has turned itself around over the last two games behind a Mid-South Conference Player of the Week performance from outfielder Bryson Wallet and a pair of home runs from Austin Peterson.

Wallet went 6-for-8 over the two games with a team-high five RBIs to receive the conference honor. Peterson had four RBIs on just two swings of the bat with his pair of two-run shots and one in each game.

The Tigers' pitching staff was serviceable on the mound over the two games with the back end of their bullpen having a shutdown series. Gage O'Brien closed out both contests with 1.2 innings in the first game and a clean ninth inning in the finale with a total of seven strikeouts.

After the doubleheader, Campbellsville will hit the road for a midweek contest at Brescia University on Wednesday followed by a weekend series at Kentucky Christian University.
