Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The busy week for the Campbellsville University baseball team continues Wednesday afternoon as the Tigers will head to Owensboro, Ky. to take on Brescia University.
First pitch between the Tigers and Bearcats is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET at Kamuf Park in Owensboro. BU is currently on a four-game losing streak after being swept in a three-game series against Indiana University Kokomo.
Individually, Brescia is led at the plate by Alex Pennes who his hitting .448 on the season with two doubles and eight RBIs. On the mound, Matthew Crittenden is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three appearances.
Yesterday, CU split their doubleheader against the Grenadiers of Indiana University Southeast at HIG Field, taking game one 9-0 and falling in game two 6-4.
The 9-0 win was the first shutout of the season for the Tigers as they had solid pitching performances from the trio of
Malcom Grady,
Marco Murillo and
Logan Davis. Grady started the game and went five shutout innings allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out four batters.
In relief Murillo and Davis struck out five of the six batters they faced with Murillo getting three strikeouts in an inning and a third and Davis recording both of outs by way of the strikeout.
At the plate, the Tigers put up two innings of four runs, in the first and fourth innings. In the first, the big swing of the bat came from reigning Mid-South Conference Player of the Week
Bryson Wallet, who doubled to right field scoring two runs. Wallet added an RBI in the fourth with a sacrifice fly to finish the game with three RBIs.
Game two started off well for the Tigers with another big first inning, scoring three in the opening frame. They got three RBI singles, one from
Tyler Deason, one from Wallet and the final RBI coming on a single from
Donnel Bailey.
Unfortunately that 3-0 lead was short lived as
Brenden Nipp gave up four runs in the top of the second inning. Three of those four runs were unearned as Nipp committed a throwing error on a ball hit back to him that would have been the second out of the inning.
The Grenadiers led by one or two for the rest of the game as CU had multiple opportunities with the tying run on base or at the plate but could not bring that tying run in to score as IU Southeast held on for the victory.
After the game at Brescia, the Tigers will have a three-games series against Kentucky Christian University starting on Friday with a single game and a doubleheader on Saturday.
