CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville baseball team will roll on with their six-game week as they head to Grayson, Ky. for a three-game set against the Knights of Kentucky Christian University.
The Tigers are coming off of their best offensive performance of the season at Brescia University on Wednesday where they pushed across 18 runs on 15 hits including four home runs. The home runs came off the bats of
Tyler Deason,
Adbiel Morales,
Donnel Bailey and
Marco Murillo as all but Morales' were two-run shots.
Deason finished the day 5-for-6 with six RBIs as he had his two-run home run, two doubles and two singles. With his big day at the plate, the senior moved into the team lead in batting average with a current .419 mark on the season.
After a rough stretch at the plate as a team, CU has three hitters at or above the .400 mark in Deason,
Austin Peterson (.405) and
Bryson Wallet (.400).
On the mound for the three-game series, the Tigers will be pretty rested as
Aaron Hutchinson and
Logan Davis were the only pitchers to see the mound in the seven-inning run-rule game on Wednesday. CU is likely to send combinations of Deason,
Anthony Arias,
Eric Little, and
Malcom Grady for a bulk of the innings over the weekend.
For the Knights, they are 3-10 on the season so far, most recently losing their home game on Wednesday to Cincinnati Christian 16-5. KCU is currently on a three-game losing streak with their most recent win coming on March 7 against Alice Lloyd.
Their leading hitting with the most at bats is Logan Wade who has started 10 games with a .355 batting average and seven RBIs. Chrystian Westfall has their best overall average at .450 in only 20 at bats with nine hits and five runs scored.
On the mound, they have six pitchers that have gotten a start so far this season with two pitchers having started twice in David Gifford and Dakota Bowen. Gifford has the better stats of the two with an 11.25 ERA in eight innings pitched.
Friday's game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. ET first pitch with the doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon ET. After this series the Tigers will quickly turnaround to play a single game on Monday against Talladega College at HIG Field at 4 p.m. ET.
