Tigers return home for Monday evening game against Talladega College

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Just two days removed from finishing a three-game series where the Campbellsville baseball team scored a total of 81 runs in three games, the Tigers prepare to host Talladega College for a single game Monday evening at HIG Field.

CU swept the three-game series over the Knights of KCU by scores of 19-2, 22-1, and 40-2 as all three games ended after seven innings via the run rule.

Individually at the plate, Tyler Deason has been on a tear for the Tigers lifting his average over the .500 mark at .511 after an outstanding week at the plate. Deason also added a winning, five-inning performance in game two where he struck 11 batters out and allowed a single run on two hits.

The Tornadoes of Talladega are 11-13 so far in the 2019, splitting their most recent doubleheader against No. 18 University of Mobile with a 9-0 win and a 7-2 loss on March 12. TC and CU have a common opponent in Tennessee Wesleyan where the same result was had by both teams, losing both ends of a doubleheader to the Bulldogs.

At the plate, Talladega has five regular players over the .300 mark for batting average led by Gustavo Castellano at .340. Castellano is a singles hitter with only a single double out of his 17 hits but also does not get on base outside of his singles much more with only four walks on the season.

The Tornadoes' pitching staff has a team ERA of 6.45 led by a high usage reliever in David Padilla, who has 11 relief appearances with a 1.76 ERA in 15.1 innings. Julian Fitts and Luis Berrios are the two pitchers leading TC in starts with five apiece with Fitts having the better ERA at 4.71.

After Monday's game, the Tigers will have a bit of a break relative to their recent schedule with three days away from game action before their first Mid-South Conference series at home against Shawnee State starting Friday at HIG Field.
