CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – CU men's volleyball earned their 11
th consecutive victory Wednesday night at the Gosser Gymnasium in a 3-0 sweep over Bluefield College.
Campbellsville dominated almost every facet of the match with 40 team kills to just 21 for Bluefield as they also had more blocks (8-2) and assists (7-0). Hitting percentage also went the way of the Tigers with CU hitting for a .263 overall team percentage with the Rams just hitting .024 for the match.
In the first set, the Tigers' ability on the serve was what kept Bluefield in the set where CU won by their lowest margin of 25-20. Campbellsville had eight errors on the serve, over half of their total of 15 in the match.
The second set was propelled by a 6-0 run by CU behind the serving of
Jeremy Hernandez as the Tigers went from an 11-7 lead to a 17-7 lead. Campbellsville went on to win the second set 25-14 before finishing the match with a 25-17 third set win with their largest scoring run was a 4-0 run to push a 17-12 lead to 21-12.
On the attack, Campbellsville and Hernandez set to the trio of
Jason Camacho,
Max Stotridge, and
Rafael Cruz for a bulk of the attacks, as the three combined to finish with 26 of the 40 CU kills. Camacho led the way with 12 on 21 attacks, Stotridge was not far behind with nine on 22 attacks and Cruz struggled with just five kills on 28 attacks.
The Tigers were efficient up the middle, especially
Noah Henkel as the freshman finished with eight kills on only nine attacks with at .889 hitting percentage. Henkel helped on three of 12 block assists as well as fellow middle blocker
Nils Kleinschmidt.
Now with a 16-7 overall record and a 10-2 Mid-South Conference record, Campbellsville men's volleyball will have their final home match of the 2019 season in six days when they host Cumberland University for Senior Night.
