Tigers begin Mid-South Conference play with three-game series against Shawnee State

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University baseball team will get back to the diamond when they host Shawnee State University for a three-game set at HIG Field to start Mid-South Conference play.
 
The series will take place on Friday and Saturday with the series opener on Friday starting at 4 p.m. ET followed by games two and three on a Saturday doubleheader.
 
The Tigers are coming off of a loss to Talladega College this past Monday by a 5-3 final score. Coming into conference play, CU has a 12-9 record after winning eight of their last 10 games in the last in the month of March.
 
Offensively for Campbellsville the top of their order has been a consistent force over the last week and a half. Austin Peterson and Tyler Deason are both currently over the .400 mark on the season with Peterson at .431 and Deason at .420 as the pair has a combined seven home runs. Tyson Solis and Bryson Wallet are not far behind in average with Solis at a .373 average and .432 on base percentage in the lead off spot and Wallet hitting .357 with 19 RBIs in the cleanup spot.
 
For the Bears of Shawnee State, they come into the weekend on a seven-game losing streak after opening their conference schedule against No. 11 University of the Cumberlands. Most recently, SSU lost their doubleheader on Tuesday against Indiana University Kokomo by scores of 13-4 and 9-0.
 
Leading the offense for Shawnee is infielder Blake Marshall who is hitting .326 in 17 starts with three doubles and a .420 on base percentage. Chase Thurber is not far behind with a .310 average in 18 games with 15 starts and is an extra base threat with seven of his 13 hits being doubles.
 
The pitching staff for the Bears has a total team ERA of 8.73 so far in the 2019 season while allowing their opponents to hit for a .321 batting average. Ryan Lambert leads their starting rotation with five starts and 32.2 innings pitched for a 5.51 ERA while also having a team-high three complete games.
 
After the series this weekend, the Tigers will host Brescia before they hit the road for seven-straight road contests. The seven road games will include two MSC road series starting against No. 11 Cumberlands next weekend.
