CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After sweeping their three-game series against Shawnee State to begin Mid-South Conference play last weekend, the Tiger baseball team will host Brescia University for a mid-week match-up at HIG Field Wednesday afternoon.
This will be the second meeting between the Tigers and the Bearcats this season after CU won at Owensboro, Ky. two weeks ago on March 13 18-7. In that game, Campbellsville hit four home runs off the bats of four different players as
Tyler Deason,
Donnel Bailey,
Marco Murillo, and
Adbiel Morales all went deep.
Deason had the biggest day of all of the CU hitters, going 5-for-6 with six RBIs and coming up a triple short of the cycle. On the mound, the Tigers were able to get through the seven-inning 10-run rule game with
Aaron Hutchinson and
Logan Davis getting through the entirety of the game with Hutchinson earning the win after his five-inning performance.
Starting with that game against Brescia, the Tigers have gone on a stretch scoring eight or more runs in seven of their last eight games, winning each of those seven games.
It has not just been about the offensive output though for CU as the pitching staff has continued to put out quality outings, allowing only six total runs in the three-games against Shawnee State. At this point in the season, the Tigers' pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.35, which is good for second in the conference.
Since the last game against the Tigers, Brescia has gone 4-6 over their last 10 games over the two weeks. Most recently, the Bearcats lost all three games of their conference series against University of Rio Grande last weekend.
The Bearcats are led offensively by Alex Pennes and Zach Scheid, who went a combined 3-for-6 two weeks ago against CU. Scheid also had a team-high three RBIs in that game after an RBI single in the first inning and a two-RBI single in the fourth.
Looking past Wednesday, the Tigers will being a stretch of seven-straight road games starting with this weekend's MSC series against No. 11 University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. this Friday and Saturday.
