CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Campbellsville men's volleyball team won their 13
thconsecutive match Thursday night with a 3-0 sweep over Thomas More University for their second win of the season over the Saints.
Every set in the match was won by nine points or more with the first going 25-12, the second at 25-16, and the final set finishing at 25-11. As they have done throughout the season in their second meetings against opponents, the Tigers used the match to get some action for their depth and put players in different roles.
Regular libero
Joudiel Poveymirow got to wear the normal jersey Thursday and play the role of an outside hitter to lead CU in kills with 11 in the match. It is the third time Poveymirow has led the Tigers in kills in a match as the sophomore has move from libero to outside hitter in all three of those matches.
The other main adjustment to the lineup was at setter as
Jason Camacho filled in at the setting spot for
Jeremy Hernandez, who was given the night off. Camacho was steady and solid for Campbellsville finishing with 26 assists to lead the match in that category while also not committing a single error.
The defensive effort from the Tigers was one of their better performances of the season both with blocks and digs. At the net, CU recorded only seven total blocks as a team but they did record a season-high four solo blocks as Camacho had three solo blocks on his own.
Even though Poveymirow led the team in kills, his natural defensive instincts were still on display as he played full rotations tying for the team high with seven digs.
Jose Viera Cerame, who filled in at libero, tied Poveymirow for the team lead with seven digs himself.
Moving forward, CU will continue this season-ending stretch of four matches in three days as they head to the Lourdes University Invitational for their Friday night match against Cardinal Stritch University at 5 p.m. ET.
