CAMPBELLSVILLE Ky. – With rain scheduled in Campbellsville for Friday and Saturday, the Tiger baseball program and Fisher College are working proactively, moving their series opener to Thursday night at HIG Field.
First pitch between the Falcons and Tigers is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET Thursday night as CU has struggled to find available times and dates to get games in this weekend. The forecast for Thursday is dry and slightly warmer than the last few days in Kentucky with the scheduled high temperature at 44 degrees.
The last time the Tigers played, they split a doubleheader against Siena Heights University last Saturday at HIG Field. Campbellsville won game two with on a final inning walk-off single from
Cale Thompson.
Thompson started both games of the doubleheader, once at second base and once at designated hitter, and combined to go 4-for-8 on the day with three hits in game one and his walk-off single in game two as his only hit in that game.
Catcher
Austin Peterson also started both games on Saturday, playing all 16 innings behind the plate. That didn't impact the senior too much at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a walk in each game, hitting a solo home run in game one and lining the game-tying single in game two before Thompson's winner.
CU pitching performed admirably on Saturday, allowing six earned runs over the 16 innings of baseball. The notable individual performance came from
Aaron Hutchinson who went five innings in game one, allowing a single run on five hits in his 2019 debut. The Tigers also got a scoreless inning in each game from
Brenden Nipp and an eight-up, eight-down performance from
Gage O'Brien to start game two.
The Falcons of Fisher College are 14-4 so far in the 2019 season as all four losses came to Rio Grande on Feb. 22-24. Most recently FC defeated Newbury College 12-5 on Feb. 28.
As a team, Fisher is hitting for a .353 batting average and posting a 2.84 team ERA on the mound. Hitters Jacob Deziel and Mitchell Lundholm have been the only players to start all 18 games for the Falcons with each hitting over .450. On the mound, Zach LeBlanc has been their main arm starting six times and throwing 35 innings with a 2.06 ERA and 46 strikeouts.
The Falcons plan to stay in town through the weekend with hopes to play the Tigers on Sunday at HIG Field.
