Tigers’ bats come alive in 11-5 win over Fisher College on a cold Thursday night at HIG Field

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville baseball won their second-straight game with an 11-5 victory over Fisher College Thursday night at HIG Field.

On a night that saw snow fall from the sky, the Tiger bats heated up to score 11 runs on 11 hits against the Falcons. Those 11 runs were two more runs than their previous four games combined when they lost three of four to Tennessee Wesleyan and Siena Heights.

The game started on a high note for Fisher as the game's leadoff hitter, Jorge Sanchez cracked a triple to left field when he later scored on an RBI groundout.

CU would go on to score the next six runs in the game, starting with their four-run second inning where they only recorded a single hit. The Tigers did draw four walks in the inning to score on two bases loaded walk, a wild pitch, and a Tyson Solis RBI groundout.

Campbellsville added a pair of runs in the fourth inning on Austin Peterson's two-run home run to left. The home run was Peterson's third of the season as he now leads the Tigers in that category and now has 12 RBIs on the season to lead CU.

The Tigers added one more in the fifth on a Bryson Wallet RBI single in the fifth to extend the lead to 7-1. Wallet had a big game for CU, going 4-for-5 with three RBIs as the senior bumped his average from below .200 to .304 after his big game.

Anthony Arias got the start on the mound for the Tigers and the senior cruised through five innings after the lead off triple in the first. Arias did run into trouble in the sixth inning after hitting the leadoff batter Jacob Deziel on an 0-2 pitch followed by two singles and an error.

Arias was removed for Malcom Grady who, allowed two more runs to score finishing the sixth with CU up 7-5. That 7-5 score was short lived as two batters into the bottom of the sixth, Marco Murillo doubled to left center in his first at bat of the game, score courtesy runner Chris Taitague from first.

Campbellsville would add three more in the seventh inning on back-to-back two out hits from Donnel Bailey and Wallet to push the score to its final of 11-5. Those two out hits were big for the Tigers as hitting with runners on base, especially with two outs, had been a struggle for them over the last few weeks.

The final pitcher of the game for CU was Gage O'Brien who came in relief of Grady as O'Brien got five outs to finish the eighth and close out the game in the ninth as all five outs were made via the strikeout.

Campbellsville and Fisher will wait and see what the weather does in town over the next couple of days to see if they can get any other games of their planned four-game series in.
