Tigers win twice on Friday, sweep over Brewton-Parker, five-set thriller over Webber International

LEBANON, Tenn. – A long day for the Campbellsville men's volleyball team ended with two Mid-South Conference victories in the Cumberland University Invitational on Friday.

In their first match of the day, the Tigers swept Brewton-Parker in the afternoon by set scores of 25-9, 25-11, and 25-21. CU was dominant with 40 kills to just 13 for the Barons, seven aces to none and five blocks to none.

Jose Viera Cerame and Nils Kleinschmidt tied for the team lead with nine kills apiece as six different Tigers had three or more kills. Kleinschmidt also had the team lead in blocks in the match for CU with three block assists.

In the night match for Campbellsville, they had to pull off a bit of a comeback effort against Webber International with a 3-2 win in five sets. Webber won the first and third sets 25-21 and 25-23 to take 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the match. CU was a slip up away from being swept as they had to extend the second set to win 30-28 before winning the fourth and fifth 25-18 and 15-10.

The fifth set was a big one for the Tigers as they attacked for a .733 hitting percentage in the set with 12 kills on 15 attacks and only a single error. Rafael Cruz was particularly effective in the fifth with eight of his 22 kills in the clinching set.

Jason Camacho played two roles in each match as the setter against Brewton-Parker and a full rotational attacker in the Webber International. In the first match, the freshman had 27 assists and in the nightcap, he was second in kills behind Cruz with 11 kills.

Campbellsville will stay in Lebanon, Tenn. to finish up the Cumberland University Invitational with one more match tomorrow afternoon. The Tigers will play Warner University at 3 p.m. ET to finish off their weekend.
