LEBANON, Tenn. – A point away from moving to a fifth set against the Royals of Warner University, Campbellsville men's volleyball went on a 7-1 run after trailing 24-20 to win the fourth set 27-25, clinching the match for CU.
The Tigers were led by the duo of
Rafael Cruz and
Jason Camacho who were by far the attacking leaders of the match as each had over 20 kills. Cruz had 21 kills on 45 attacks for a .311 hitting percentage and Camacho had an even 20 while adding 10 digs for a double-double.
CU had trailed for much of the fourth set, including their largest lead of 22-16 before the remarkable run to end the set. The run was aided by errors from the Royals as four of the seven points were scored on WU errors, including the match winning point.
The match started off in the favor of Warner as they won the first set 25-21 behind a 5-1 run after the score was tied 20-20. CU answered with a pretty dominating second set, winning 25-16 behind a .407 hitting percentage as the Royals hit at a .000 percentage.
The third set was very even as the Tigers edged out the 25-23 win in the set behind 14 kills and only five errors. The hitting percentages did favor CU as Warner had 13 kills and nine errors to drop their percentage down to .111 compared to .237 for Campbellsville.
Outside of the attackers Campbellsville had solid performances from setter
Jeremy Hernandez and libero Joudiel Poveymiro. Poveymirow was the only Tiger outside of Camacho with double digit digs at 11 and Hernandez had a match-high 49 assists, which was two short of his season-high that he set yesterday with 51 against Webber International.
CU will continue to play away from Campbellsville over the next couple of matches starting next Tuesday at Midway University. That will be the Tigers only match of the week before playing once on the road and once at home in two weeks.
