CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – A few days removed from an intense Mid-South Conference against University of the Cumberlands, the Campbellsville baseball team will regroup to get ready for a single mid-week game against Indiana University Southeast on Tuesday.
The Tigers and Grenadiers will match up for the fourth time this season, the first time in New Albany, Ind. as IU Southeast has come to Campbellsville twice for three games earlier in the season.
In those three game, Indiana Southeast has won two of the three as they took the home opener away from CU as well as taking the second game of a doubleheader that took place on March 12.
The Tigers are coming off of winning only one of three against the Patriots over the weekend, with the final game being lost on a walk-off passed ball in a 10-9 final. In the series, CU scored 21 runs in three games driven by the outstanding weekend from
Adbiel Morales.
Morales 6-for-11 (.545) in the series in the leadoff spot with three doubles and two home runs, including a leadoff home run to start game three. Another standout from the series offensively was
Cale Thompson at the bottom part of the line as the junior second baseman recorded two hits in all three games of the series with a pair of RBIs in the second game on Friday.
On the mound for Tuesday, Campbellsville will likely go to any combination of
Marco Murillo,
Brenden Nipp,
Aaron Hutchinson and
Logan Davis against the Grenadiers. Murillo, Hutchinson and Davis did not see any time on the mound against Cumberalnds with Nipp seeing short stints against the Patriots on each day.
IU Southeast currently has a 23-9 overall record and 12-3 record in their conference (River States) and are on a current eight-game winning streak dating back to March 16 against Vest Virginia Tech. The success of the Grenadiers has boosted their ranking to the receiving votes category in the NAIA Coaches' Poll two weeks ago as the new polls will be released tomorrow.
As the Tigers are in the middle of seven-straight games away from Campbellsville, they will head East for their next weekend conference series against the Bears of University of Pikeville on Friday and Saturday.
