Sloan, Campbell and Pizzo finish in Top 3 at U.S. Junior Nationals in Texas

IRVING, Texas — Three Campbellsville University women's wrestlers clinched their spot on the U.S. Junior National Team and will now have total access to the Olympic Training Center this summer.

Campbellsville's Kenya Sloan, McKayla Campbell and Katlyn Pizzo all finished in the Top 3 of their respective weight classes. Sloan led the way by finishing second at 76 kg. Campbell and Pizzo finished third at 50 kg and 53 kg, respectively.

The U.S. Women's Nationals determines who will have the opportunity to compete on the U.S. Junior World Team, the Pan American Championships and other international tours across the world.

With Sloan's second-place finish, she will have the chance to represent the US and Campbellsville University at the Pan American Championships. Campbell and Pizzo will have the opportunity to compete at international events.

In addition, the biggest value for all three youngsters is having the opportunity to train all summer at the Olympic Training Center and attend development camps with all expenses paid for.

Sloan had the toughest test in the U.S. Nationals as she had to face Korinahe Bullock from McKendree University and a 2018 U23 World Bronze medalist. She won a pair of decisive matches, 12-0 and 10-1, in the finals.

Campbell, a multi-time age-group World Team member, picked up a pin over Wisconsin's Josie Bartishofski in 2:35 to earn her third-place medal. Pizzo, who has come off major injuries the last two years, earned a tech-fall win over Autumn Flanigan of Missouri, 12-1.
