No-hit bid falls in the ninth, but the Tigers blank two-seeded Georgetown in MSC Tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The pitching staff combined to allow one hit as Anthony Arias and Jesse Davis pitched eight no-hit innings and Gage O'Brien came in to slam the door with a runner in scoring position for the 3-0 Campbellsville win.

The win over two-seeded Georgetown College (42-12) avenges a regular season sweep by GC and now moves the CU Tigers (29-18) into the winner's bracket finals scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon. CU will face the winner of four-seeded Cumberland University and top-seeded University of the Cumberlands that was scheduled to play Thursday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Arias (6-4) was brilliant on the hill tossing six innings of no-hit baseball and striking out seven. The only blemish was four walks and 92 pitches through six innings.

The Tiger offense backed him up, though, and used small ball to scratch their first three runs.

In the third inning, Chris Taitague singled up the middle and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Cale Thompson. Marco Murillo was able to beat out an infield single to put runners on first and second and no outs. After a steal by Murillo, Abdiel Morales delivered a sacrifice fly to center field putting CU ahead, 1-0.

Tyson Solis followed with a single down the right field line to score Murillo and Campbellsville led 2-0 after three.

In the fifth inning, it was small ball putting runners into scoring position once again and Solis drove in Thompson with a sacrifice fly to left field putting CU ahead, 3-0.

Arias was pulled for Jesse Davis in the seventh inning and he allowed only one baserunner with a walk through two innings. In the ninth, Georgetown picked up its first base runner in scoring position, but O'Brien slammed the door late for his third save.

The bottom of the order did the damage today. Taitague, Thompson and Murillo led the offense with six of the eight hits in the seven-eight-nine holes in lineup. The top of the order drove in the runs, as Morales, the leadoff hitter, drove in a run, and Solis, the two-hitter, drove in two.

The Tigers will now be one win away from reaching the MSC Tournament finals for the third straight year.
